Past Life Payback at Work: Uncovering the Unconscious Story Behind Career Roadblocks

"I feel like my boss is stopping me from moving forward," she tells me. "There is a position I want. I meet all the requirements to get it, I am good and deserving, and all she does is put obstacles in my way."

We begin by setting up representatives for the client, the position, and the boss.

At first, I’m not sure whether this is a family or a karmic constellation, but I start with these four representatives.

As the work unfolds and we tune into the representatives, a very strong feeling emerges that my client's boss is loyal to someone or something else. There is something larger operating behind the scenes, directing the play. The client then brings in a representative for "whatever or whoever my boss is loyal to."

The client perceives an image of an ancient basket.

I ask her to bring in a representative for the past life that this basket is connected to.

She does so, and in her mind's eye, she sees a young woman who wants to go out into the open spaces and experience freedom, but there is a wall blocking her from doing so.

We bring in representatives for both the woman and the wall.

And this is where something fascinating happens.

There are two stories present in the field: the story and interpretation that my client brings, and the story told by the representatives themselves.

My client works with sticky notes in three colors: greenish, blue, and white.

The story told by the representatives is completely different from my client’s interpretation.

The boss and the woman from the past life are both represented by white notes.

The client and the wall—both are represented by greenish notes.

The position itself is represented by a blue note.

The representatives are showing me the unconscious story.

It is when we expose the unconscious story that significant change occurs.

So, what was the unconscious story hidden there?

In that past life, the client was actually her boss's mother. In that lifetime, the young woman wanted freedom, but the mother built a wall and wouldn't let her express herself.

In the context of karmic balancing, this is exactly what is playing out right now.

It is no longer a mother-daughter relationship, but it remains hierarchical.

Once we acknowledged the pain my client's past incarnation caused her boss's past incarnation, a shift occurred in their relationship.

Before this, the client's two representatives and the boss could not stand each other. They wanted to distance themselves, and the boss even wanted to leave the session entirely.

After we uncovered the story and the client took responsibility for what had happened, the boss came over to hug her.

Many times, things that happened in a past life continue to affect us now. The relationships change, but the energy of the pain from that past life remains between them, seeking a resolution.
